Legacy Weekend Celebrates SA's 65th Anniversary

What a wonderful celebration SA's past, present and future! Thank you to everyone who made our annual Legacy Weekend a success, and thank you to all who attended. Here is what the weekend brought for everyone in attendance:

  • From our youngest preschooler to the oldest senior, all SA students came together for a special assembly introducing the time capsule items to be submitted by each class for preservation and discovery each decade. Items captured the personality of each class and emphasized our focus on Christ-centeredness.

  • Parents, alumni and students joined for the Elementary Grand Opening ceremony as we recognized all those who participated in the project, as well as, the presentation of items being placed into the time capsule. In addition to class submission, there were additional items from each individual and company who participated in the building project. Overall, the time capsule truly represents the school’s 65-year history and legacy.

  • Attendance at Homecoming events was fabulous. Dr. Friesen shared, “There were people everywhere enjoying all aspects of the evening, which included the barbecue dinner, interviews and recognition of former coaches, introductions of the homecoming court, the crowning of the king and queen, and a great football game. I commented to Mrs. Friesen several times during the evening that I couldn’t believe how many people were here.”

  • The Crusader Legacy Courtyard Induction Ceremony was a great event to cap off the weekend with approximately 200 people present to honor our fifteen inductees this year - including Dr. and Mrs. Fadel. Each of the inductees impacted countless lives in the time they served at Salem Academy and are a significant part of the legacy of excellence that has been built over time, and continues on today.

All those who were in attendance at any of the events over the weekend went away with a strong sense of being part of something special. The legacy of Salem Academy is a rich one and there are many people who have contributed to the development of that legacy over the years. There is an incredibly high level of excitement, energy, and optimism building at Salem Academy. We are grateful to God for His abundant blessings, and look forward to all that He has in store for us in the years ahead.

To say that any single event was the highlight of the weekend is impossible as there were so many, but seeing Dr. and Mrs. Fadel again has to be one of them. He is one of the ones that first hired me, and I worked under or with Dr. Fadel eleven of the twelve years I was at the Academy. I consider it a real privilege to have worked with him.

We had a wonderful time at the celebration, and both Jeff and I were able to talk to long lost friends (and former students!) It was a great time.
