Crusaders Finish 2nd in State Tournament

The Salem Academy girls finished their magical season by playing for in the OSAA 3A Girls Basketball State Finals, taking on the Vale Vikings in the Pirate Palace of Marshfield High School.  With a six point halftime lead, the Vikings used a 14-8 third quarter to pull away for 49-35 win.  Junior guard Rachel Peters finished with 12 points to lead the Crusaders, while tournament MVP Danielle Vander Stoel finished with 8 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Hannah Flores was also named to the all tournament 2nd team. In the past five years the Crusader girls basketball program has taken home a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place trophy.  Great season ladies.  We are proud of you!

Varsity Girls Win PacWest Conference Championship

For the second season in the row the Salem Academy varsity girls basketball team has taken home a conference title.  Finishing with an overall conference record of 16-2, the girls will now head take on Creswell in the conference playoffs and await the release of the OSAA 3A State Basketball Championship bracket on Sunday.  The Crusaders are currently ranked #4 in the OSAA 3A power rankings and #2 in the 3A Girls Coaches Poll.


Artz and Flores Named SSBC Players of the Week

Salem Academy seniors Stefanie Artz and Hannah Flores where honored this week as the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club players of the week.  Artz and Flores are both starters for this years #1 ranked varsity girls basketball team.  Artz (5'5" Guard) is averaging 10.7 points per game while shooting a red hot 41% from three point range.  In her last game vs. Jefferson she scored 21 points on 6 for 11 shooting behind the arch.  Flores (5'7" Guard) is leading the Crusaders in scoring at 13.3 points per game, in addition to almost 4 steals and 4 assists a contest.  Congratualtions ladies!

SA Girls Win Crusader Christmas Invitational

The Salem Academy varsity girls basketball team won the 2010 Crusader Christmas Invitational, defeating Valley Catholic in the girls final 91-63.  Senior Danielle Vander Stoel was named tournament MVP, and senior Hannah Flores was named to the all tournament team.  Click on the links below to read the recaps from the 2010 Crusader Christmas Invitational courtesy of Bruce McCain via OregonPrepSports.net.
